The Emperor’s New Clothes

There was an emperor who longed to spend every day in brand-new, high-priced attire. While delaying his responsibilities as ruler, he meticulously groomed himself and changed his clothes frequently.

Two con artists appear to be weavers and visit the Emperor one day. They persuade the Emperor that they have a fine fabric that wise and honest men can only see. They claim to show the texture, and the ruler is compelled to go about as though he sees the texture if he is known as a dolt and unscrupulous. The Emperor hires two con artists to make him special robes.

Everyone in the king’s court is forced to act as if they see the beautiful dress woven for the Emperor because they keep pretending to weave clothes. The con artists ask the Emperor to don the ready-made robe for one fine day’s upcoming procession.

He agreed, even though the Emperor couldn’t see the robe. He goes through the procession naked while pretending to be wearing the robe.

Nobody wants to be called dishonest or foolish; everyone stays quiet about the sovereign being exposed. However, an innocent child bursts out, “The emperor is actually naked,” unable to contain himself. The laughter then spreads to include yet another child.

The Emperor is perplexed, but he cannot stop walking the procession.

He decides to punish the con artists, but they have already left with a lot of money they got for making clothes they never made.

Honesty is important, and the desire for luxury can lead people to make foolish decisions. Additionally, the story emphasizes the need to speak the truth, even when it may be uncomfortable or unpopular.
