Once there lived a rich man in a village. His name was Seth. A Saint used to go door to door collecting alms. One day, the Saint went to the house of a wealthy villager, Seth, to beg for money. Seth got a few grains and gave them to the holy person as aid.

Seth said, “Maharaj! I want to ask a question after giving alms.”

Seth asked Saint, “I want to know why people fight?” to which Saint replied, “Sure.”

Seth became extremely enraged and lost control of himself when he heard Saint reply, “I have come here to take alms. I have not come here to answer your silly questions.”

Seth then started yelling at Saint, asking, “What’s this behaviour? “I just gave you a good amount of money, and still, you are responding to me this way.” In his anger, Seth said a lot of things to the Saint. While Seth was yelling, Saint silently stood there and listened to him.

After, at some point, when Seth quieted down, the holy person shared with him, “Sibling, when I answered you severely, you blew up. You started yelling at me out of rage. We would have had a big fight if I had also become enraged at that time.”

“Outrage is the reason for each dispute, and harmony can end each debate. If we don’t get angry, then there will be no fight.”

We should maintain our composure wherever we are; at home, with our family, or at work. We should respond calmly even when someone is angry. Even small things can cause significant harm as soon as we lose our calm and get angry.
