February 12, 2023July 16, 2023 Race of Life: The Power of Empathy The “Race of Life” story is about Tannu, a girl with big dreams. She belonged to a very wealthy family. She worked in an office where she was too much sincere with her work. She had a deskmate who sat just beside her in the office. Her name was Bindu. Bindu was also a very sincere girl. Though she belonged to a poor family, she was a brilliant girl. She has worked hard in her school days to secure good results and got this job. They were very good friends and usually had a great time while working together. They went on outings and had lunch together during break time. Tannu was not happy with her stipend in the office. She wanted a higher amount of money. She was annoyed with her boss as he didn’t promote any employee. She started preparing for a good government job. But she didn’t let this be known to her friend, Bindu. Bindu was a wise girl and was satisfied with whatever stipend she received. One day, they both went to a park for a day out. It was their holiday, and suddenly while gossiping and munching chips, Tannu mistakenly said about her preparations for the government exams. After hearing that, Bindu asked her why she wasn’t satisfied with the stipend. Tannu replied that she belonged to a wealthy family and that a job like this didn’t suit her. And she has a lot of maintenance charges to spend on herself. Therefore she said, “You are from a poor background! You will never understand how much my salon bill is for every month. The money I receive isn’t enough for it”. Tannu’s words were very harsh and rude for the first time, affecting Bindu badly. Calling someone poor intentionally is very bad, hurting Bindu’s emotions. Bindu didn’t say a word that day and left without speaking anymore. Tannu understood that by mistake, she said all those to Bindu, which had hurt her. Tannu wanted to apologize to her the next day. The next day, when Tannu reached the office, she found that Bindu wasn’t there. She didn’t come to the office that day. As a result, Tannu was unable to apologize. On the same day, their boss came and announced their sudden promotion and also a space for an employee as a manager. Tannu was very much excited to get the position as a manager. She was overjoyed as she had a promotion. The boss asked all the employees for their opinion on who they should choose as their manager. Everybody gave their names. When it was Tannu’s turn, she suddenly got up and shouted, “Bindu.” The boss was astonished. Tannu again, “Sir, Bindu will be perfect for this position as she is a sincere girl and works very hard.” The boss smiled and said, “Tannu, you are the only one who supported Bindu and gave your opinion instead of shouting your name. I will choose Bindu as our new manager because her hard work is noticeable.” The next day when Bindu entered, she didn’t want to talk to Tannu. But the boss heard everything from Tannu and planned to give her a surprise. He asked Tannu to give her the good news of her position and promotion. As soon as Bindu entered, Tannu grabbed her and shouted, “Welcome new manager! Good morning ma’am! Would you like to have a cup of tea?” Bindu was shocked, and when Tannu gave her the news Bindu was overjoyed. Bindu never thought that Tannu would suggest her name. Their bond became stronger than before. Tannu belonged to a wealthy family and had enough money. It was her longing for more. She quickly could grab the position as the new manager as she was too hardworking and sincere. But she gave her position to Bindu as she belonged to a poor background, and for a better life, she needed it. Moral of Race of Life: The Power of Empathy Story Life is not all about winning.
