February 13, 2023July 16, 2023 The Little Ant and A Butterfly There lived a little ant named Sillia. She was scurrying about looking for food one day. Autumn was coming, and summer was about to end. It would soon be winter, making it difficult to find food. Sillia was aware that she needed to stock as much as she could so that her ant colony would have enough food for the challenging months ahead. She had already gathered a lot. She was now looking for pieces of sweetmeat, which the younger members of her colony liked to have after eating. Sillia suddenly detected the sweet scent of pastry as she scurried among the trees and shrubs. She quickly went around the bush and saw a large piece of pastry containing an entire raisin! She looked up and saw something hanging from a bush’s leaf. She saw a tiny tail when she looked closer. It appeared to be bandaged and wrapped in something. Although Sillia was unaware of it, the “thing” was actually a butterfly chrysalis or pupa. Sillia exclaimed, “Oh, you poor thing!” She was unfamiliar with the term “chrysalis.” What a tragic outcome you have! I’m free to run wherever I want, climb trees, and cross mountains. And take a look at yourself—you’re trapped in your shell. You can only move your tail a little.” The chrysalis, on the other hand, did not respond. “Even the children of ants can run around and do as much as we can,” Sillia continued. “You are all chained and unable to move, but they are free. You must have a wonderful life.” Saying all this, she left with her pastry. Sillia returned a few days later, hoping to find some more pastries or biscuits. She was sweating because that day was unusually hot. She felt a gentle, cool breeze as she was suddenly enveloped in what appeared to be a cloud. She went up. This time, what did she see? Exactly, one of the most stunning butterflies she’d ever seen! Light blue with yellow and light pink dots. Sillia thought as she stared at the beauty of how lucky she was to be able to fly freely. Silvy, the butterfly, said, “Look at me! I am your beloved companion. You extolled your ability to run around and scale mountains. Try to get me to listen now, though.” The butterfly then flew off with a graceful flap of her wings, like a gentle breeze sigh.
