September 27, 2023September 27, 2023 Jam With His Slingshot Jam and his sister Susie once went to their grandparents’ farm to visit. In the woods, Jam decided to play with a slingshot. He rehearsed in the forest. However, he would never raise a ruckus around town. Getting somewhat deterred, he set out back toward lunch. He saw Grandma’s pet duck on his way back. He let the slingshot fly impulsively, striking the duck squarely in the head and killing it. He was stunned and devastated. He hid the dead duck in the wooded pile out of panic. Susie remained silent despite having seen everything from the window. After lunch the following day, Grandmother said, “Susie, how about we wash the dishes.” “But Grandma, Jam told me he wanted to help in the kitchen,” Susie said. Then she asked Jam in a whisper, “Remember the duck?” Jam got anxious, realizing his sister had some awareness of the duck, and on the off chance that he didn’t comply, she might inform his grandparents. He then did the dishes without saying a word. Sometime after that, Granddad inquired as to whether the kids needed to go fishing, yet Grandmother said, “Please accept my apologies; however I really want Susie to assist with making a dinner.” “Well that’s all right because Jam told me he wanted to help,” Susie said with a simple smile. She murmured again to Jam, “Recall the duck?” So Susie went fishing, and Jam remained to help. Following a few days of Susie exploiting Jam, he at last couldn’t stand it any longer. He came to Grandmother and admitted that he had killed the duck. Grandmother stooped down, gave him an embrace, and said, “Darling, I know. I saw everything from my window seat, but I forgave you because I loved you. I was just curious as to how long you would permit Susie to exploit you.
