December 5, 2022July 16, 2023 The Shepherd Boy and The Wolf Story There was a shepherd boy who protected his master’s sheep near a dark forest not very far from his village. He noticed that life in the pasture was dull within a few days. All he was doing to amuse himself was talking to his dog or playing on his shepherd’s pipe. One day, the boy sat watching the sheep and the calm forest. Thinking about what he would do, he thought of a plan to amuse himself. He remembered that his master told him to call for help when a wolf attacked the flock so that villagers would drive it away. Though he had not seen any wolf, the shepherd boy ran towards the village, shouting, “Wolf! Wolf!” As the boy expected, the villagers who heard the cry stopped their work and ran eagerly to the pasture. But, when they arrived at the pasture, the boy laughed at the trick he had played on the villagers. A few days later, the shepherd boy shouted, “Wolf. This time too, villagers ran to help him only to be laughed at again. Later, one evening, as the sun was setting behind the forest and the shadows were creeping out over the pasture, the boy really saw a wolf that sprang from the underbrush and fell upon the sheep. The boy ran toward the village shouting with fear. This time, though villagers heard the cry, they did run to help him as they had done earlier. They said he could not fool them again. The wolf killed many sheep and slipped away into the forest. Moral of The Shepherd Boy and The Wolf Story If you keep lying, no one will trust you, even if you speak the truth.
