Vikramaditya and Betal Challenge

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Sometime in the distant past, in the old realm of Ujjain, there was a wise and courageous lord named Vikramaditya. He was known for his feeling of equity and courage. At some point, a vagabond priest gave him a curious test.

The priest gave him a delightful, inert carcass suspended from a tree and said, “O Ruler, this is no customary body. It is moved by a fretful and naughty soul, Betal. Take it to the incineration ground, however be careful! Betal will get away and return to its residence after each inquiry you pose.”

Not set in stone to demonstrate his fortitude, Vikramaditya acknowledged the demand. As he started his excursion with the cadaver on his shoulder, Betal became fully awake, testing the ruler with puzzles and moral situations. With each inquiry, Vikramaditya addressed astutely, and Betal recognized the lord’s insight.

In any case, Betal’s definitive point was to get away and return to the tree. In this way, during one specific inquiry, when the ruler was charmed in his reaction, Betal quickly got away. Inspite of this, Vikramaditya stayed unfazed and proceeded with his interest.

Vexed by the lord’s diligence, Betal depended on recounting to a story inside a story, a story enrapturing to the point of diverting Vikramaditya. Yet, the shrewd ruler astutely translated the riddle, making Betal return to the inert state.

This wait-and-see game went on for a few evenings, with Betal getting away and Vikramaditya catching him each time. At long last, after many battles, the lord figured out how to trap Betal by outsmarting him with his keenness.

Intrigued by Vikramaditya’s mind and assurance, Betal revealed the genuine motivation behind the test. It was a trial of valiance as well as insight and empathy. As a trade-off for his insight, Betal gave gifts to the shrewd ruler.

Subsequently, the legend of Vikram and Betal spread all over, exhibiting the victory of keenness and the victory of good over evil. The lord’s accounts of Betal’s questions have been gone down through ages, showing significant life illustrations and rousing insight in all who hear them.
