Smart Wife Story

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Rishi, Mita’s generous husband, was adored by her. Even though he was poor, Rishi was a kind man. He would bring guests home for lunch each day. After serving guests, the couple frequently became starving.

Mita told her husband that when guests were struggling to eat two meals a day, it was hard to feed them. However, Rishi refused to listen: When a guest is fed, the gods will be pleased.

Mita realized that she could not change her husband. She had to take action to stop people from coming in for lunch.

Rishi asked his wife to prepare lunch for three guests he had invited one morning. They should be here by noon, he said.

Mita wished to inform Rishi that there was insufficient rice or dal to feed three people. However, she was unable to do so due to the visit of one of his friends. Rishi informed his wife that he needed to go out with a friend but would return by noon.

Mita had a thought. She removed the rice-pounding mortar and pestle. After coating the pestle with haldi and kumkum, she placed it in the hallway.

At noon, the guests arrived promptly. With a smile, Mita welcomed them inside. The mortar and pestle being worshipped in their host’s home surprised them.

Mita informed the guests that her husband had made a pact that he would hit his guests on the head before he served them their meals. When the guests heard this, they became pale. Don’t stress. He won’t really hit you. Just a head tap,” Mita assured. She then continued, “Three times.” The visitors stood up and fled the house.

Rishi returned shortly after that. He observed the guests departing. Have they eaten lunch? He inquired of his wife.

Mita responded, “No, they left abruptly.”

“Did you say anything harsh to them?” enquired Rishi.

“They desired this mortar. Mita stated, “I told them I cannot part with it because my mother gave it to me.”

Rishi and his wife were fighting. He added, “I’ll give it to them and bring them back.” “We must give the guests whatever they ask for.”

“Stop, I want to give it to you,” Rishi yelled as he ran after the guests who were carrying the pestle.

When the guests looked back, Rishi was following them with the pestle. They believed he was pursuing them to strike them with it. They entered a run.

The entire town saw Rishi with a pestle, pursuing the three men. It became known that Rishi was a kind host who would pound the guests with a pestle. “Just a gentle tap,” the locals said. “Three times” would then be added.

After that, to Rishi’s wife’s relief, no guests arrived at his house.

Moral of Smart Wife Story

Hospitality should not come at the cost of one’s own well-being and should be extended within one’s means. Misunderstandings can arise if communication is not clear, and assumptions are made based on incomplete information.

It’s essential to consider the feelings and needs of others, but it’s equally important to take care of oneself and avoid compromising one’s own values and boundaries to please others.
