The Anniversary Surprise – A Couple Story

The once-cute couple, Preeti and Varun, who couldn’t imagine a day without each other, had become bitter. Both disapproved of the way things had changed and were arguing over insignificant issues. It was the day before their anniversary when they quarrelled regarding a small issue. 

Preeti had taken Varun’s debit card without his permission. Varun was not aware of this, and he left for the office early in the morning. Preeti took his card from the wallet before he left his room.

While Varun was in the office and went to the canteen during the lunch break, he couldn’t find his debit card to pay. He thought he might have lost it. Just after that, in the evening, he received a message of money deduction from his account by his wife Preeti for shopping worth Rs. 5000.

Varun burst out in anger and behaved harshly with Preeti after returning home. Preeti got disappointed and shouted back at him.

The next day was their anniversary. She was angry as Varun behaved rudely with her. Preeti was waiting for her husband to arrive on their anniversary day. She was interested in finding out if her husband remembered that it was their anniversary.

She ran toward the door when the bell rang. Her husband was standing at the door in the rain, smiling and holding a bouquet of flowers.

Both were content, and after making amends for previous disagreements and reminiscing, they planned a dinner with light music.

However, when the bedroom phone rang, the moment paused.

To get it, Preeti entered the building. On the other side, a man called and said, “Hello, mam! I am calling from the police station. Is this the number of Mr. Varun?”

“Yes, it is,” she replied.

“I’m sorry, mam, but a man died in an accident. This number came to us from his wallet. We must depart to identify his body, the man said.

Preeti’s heart dropped. She was shocked. Man replied, “Sorry, mam! incident took place at 3 o’clock when he was boarding the train,” to which she responded, “But my husband is with me.”

Preeti was about to let go of her morals. She wondered, “How could this occur?” She had heard that a loved one’s soul would visit them before it left.

Her husband was nowhere to be found when Preeti ran into another room. She reasoned, “It was accurate. She exclaimed, “Oh God! He had left her for good. I would give anything to have another chance to settle every little dispute!”

In pain, she fell to the ground. She began to weep heavily and considered, “She lost her chance! Forever!”

There was a sudden noise coming from the bathroom. The door opened, and Varun came out and said, “Darling, I forgot to tell you that my wallet got stolen today.” 

Preeti was relieved to see him and ran to him. She hugged him and talked about the incident. Then Varun apologized for his last day’s behaviour and asked Preeti to forget it. They celebrated their anniversary happily.

Tomorrow had never been promised. Live life to the fullest. Ignoring the little harsh things can make your life easier.
