The Daughter’s Wit Saves The Day

Sunny, a businessman, owed Mandy, a money lender, a significant amount. Sunny had a beautiful daughter who was very affectionate with her father. When the time came for the merchant to run out of the last chance, he had to return the money. Mandy threatened to marry his lovely daughter if the merchant did not return the entire amount.

The merchant was in a difficult situation due to Mandy’s poor mental state and lack of physical beauty. Mandy added a new requirement. The ground beneath them was covered in a mix of white and black pebbles. He will carry two pebbles, one white and one black, in each of his hands.

Mandy will write off all debt and reject the marriage proposal if the daughter selects the white pebble correctly. However, he will discharge the debt and marry the daughter if she selects the black pebble.

The daughter noticed that Mandy took black pebbles from the ground with both hands as she sat down to pick them up. The girl had three options:

• She could tell about it to her father, which could cause Mandy to act out.
• She could take the black pebble and risk her life.
• She could refuse to take the pebble, which could get her father in trouble.

Mandy was astonished, however, by what she did.

When she took the pebble out of his hand, it “accidentally” fell to the ground. In order to identify the colour she chose, she then asked Mandy to examine the color of the pebble that was left in his hand. To free them both, Mandy had no choice but to demonstrate the black pebble in his hand. It indicated that the daughter chose the white pebble, and Mandy had to do what he promised. He left the place silently without giving the word.
