October 6, 2023October 6, 2023 The Madwoman’s Granddaughter “The madwoman’s granddaughter” was the name given to Vera. The grandma had gone through a portion of her time on earth, demanding that she could see into the future and giving predictions that no one comprehended. Vera had never really realized her, yet nobody on earth might have thought that the grinning, sweet old woman in the family photographs was insane. For that reason, Vera was so energized when she found a note from her grandma concealed in an old gems box. “There is a place where chocolate rains from the sky, and there is a great treasure:” was the message on the note. “Whoever discovers it will be wealthy.” Vera immediately set out in search of the treasure and began secretly exploring every nook and cranny of the mountains in search of a spot where chocolate fell. However, rain fell as water wherever she went in the deserts, forests, caves, rivers, valleys, and meadows. She was sad and crying by the roadside one day when a child approached. “How come you’re sobbing?” “Because there is water in every cloud!” Waah! Naturally, they are! The child responded, “What do you want them to rain on: chocolate?” “Yes!” “That sounds mind-boggling, really. I would cherish it, assuming it down-poured chocolate. Vera stopped crying. “It would be like a story I read as a child or young adult.” A tale? Imagine a scenario in which her grandma was discussing a book. In a book, anything could happen, even chocolate! She gave the child a huge hug without saying a word and then dashed to the library in search of a story about chocolate raining. This undoubtedly provided the path to the treasure. Vera went through that entire day, and numerous after it, in the library, searching for the book with chocolate mists. She discovered forests of smiles, singing seas, and rainbow dreams but no sign of the chocolate rain. Not even a week later. Neither a month. It’s barely a year. But since she realized it existed and was not entirely set in stone, she continued to search for it. She didn’t know what to do when the day came when the books ran out. “Why don’t you write it if you can’t find the book you want?” The librarian spoke, attempting to console her. “Indeed, on the grounds that that isn’t sufficient. She responded, “I’m looking for something particular.” But on the way home, she couldn’t stop thinking about the librarian’s idea, so when she got to her room, she couldn’t resist writing down a wonderful tale about chocolate clouds. She came up with thousands of funnier and more original stories and concepts as she wrote and played with that sweet rain in her mind. She effortlessly brought new worlds and creatures to life on paper and in the imaginations of others. Vera found out then that her grandmother was correct. She had read so much that her mind was a treasure in and of itself, providing her with endless writing, speaking, learning, and even invention ideas. Vera gained everyone’s respect and admiration as a direct result of all of this. She also felt very wealthy because she wouldn’t give up her tiny head, where it rained chocolate, for anything, not even all of the gold in the world.
