The Poor Farmer and The Rich Farmer

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

There was a poor farmer living in a small village. As he didn’t have land of his own, he worked on rented lands from the landowners. He didn’t have much income from his work. Also, he had to pay the rent amount to the land owner for the land which he used for agriculture. The man didn’t have any assets. He earned only two hundred rupees per day.

As a result, he was not able to fulfill his dreams. He had a small daughter and a wife in his family. The three of them lived together in a small kutch.

Every day, the poor farmer worked hard to earn his living as he dealt with onion seeds as his crop. The neighboring farmer had his own land and didn’t have to pay any rent. Watching him, the poor farmer thought he might be the happiest and rich farmer as he didn’t have to pay the rent like him. Nor was he poor, as he earned a good amount of money from his crops. He might be able to fulfill his dreams and his family’s. The farmer had a large land full of crops. He dealt with rice and thus had a good profit.

One day, the poor farmer was sad because his little daughter requested him to buy her a big teddy bear. But the farmer didn’t have enough money to get it for her. Being a father, he could not fulfill her little daughter’s wish. It made him weep. He had inner thoughts that the rich farmer would be able to buy one as he had more money than him. The man started to bully himself.

The next day, both farmers went to a small tea shop beside their land. Both of them went to have some breakfast and tea.

While having their breakfast, the rich farmer said to the poor man, “You would be the happiest right?” The poor man was shocked and replied, “Why?”. The rich farmer said, “I am the saddest thing on this earth among all the farmers.”

The poor farmer looking at him said that as he earns less than him, he cannot fulfill all his dreams, but he is happy with whatever he has. The farmer got up and thought, “Being poorer than him, he said that he is happy in his life but he, earning more than him, is unhappy.

The poor farmer then suggested that despite their poverty, insufficient money, and inability to fulfill all their dreams, they stay happy. They always try to stay positive and go on with the flow of life because everything that happens in life has a reason and is good to happen.

Moral of The Poor Farmer and the Rich Farmer Story

Always be satisfied with what you have and be positive in life. Negativity can snatch away all your inner peace from your life.
