November 12, 2022July 16, 2023 Water In The Desert – Story On Determination Once there were two brothers living in Bikaner which is in Rajasthan by the names Aman & Vimal. Both were good sculptors and they had a shop for selling their sculptures. Two brothers used to take turns and sell sculptures at the shop. One day, some tourists came to their shop. Tourists were very happy seeing the sculptures. One of them liked a Laughing Buddha Sculpture and starts saying… Tourist: This Laughing Buddha is so cute. How much does it cost? Aman: One Coin! Tourist: That’s it! Okay, Take this. The tourist gave the coin while she was about to leave, thought something, and stops to ask her query and asks… Tourist: Tell me one thing! How many sculptures will you both make in a month? Vimal: Almost, Twenty. Tourist: If a single sculpture takes 1 coin, then you will be earning only 20 coins. You both are not earning enough for your art. Aman: But, If we sell sculptures at a high price, then none of the people here buys them! Tourist: So, you should sell your sculptures away from here to a city like Udaipur. You guys will earn a lot! Saying this the tourist walked away… Aman & Vimal were busy with their jobs, but they were now thinking about making more money. Discussion between Aman & Vimal: Aman: Vimal, Should we go to the city to sell our sculptures? Vimal: No Idea! Even I was thinking about it. Aman: Maybe we can become rich in real. If we sell our sculptures in cities like Udaipur. Vimal: Yeah! Maybe possible. But, Along the way to Udaipur, There comes a desert. How will we cross that? Aman: We will take a sufficient amount of food & water pots with us so that we can cross the desert easily. Vimal: Good Idea! Aman: Okay then! Let’s leave this coming Monday. As they discussed, Both the brothers started from Bikaner to Udaipur that Monday. It will take 7 days for the journey on a bullock cart. By the end of the first day, They both reached the desert. Till then, their journey was pretty good. After the sunset, they stopped the cart and had their food. Aman: It was a good day today! Vimal: Yes brother! We will reach Udaipur very soon as well. Aman: Yes. Surely. The next day, they started their journey right after sunrise and ended with the sunset. Their journey was quite comfortable for four days. On the fifth day… The sun was scorching heat and they had only one pot of water and even that was depleting very fast. Aman: We will have to find the water at the earliest. Otherwise, we will have to get stuck in this hot desert. Vimal: But, Where can we find water in this desert? Both brothers looked around for water. The next day, even the bulls stopped walking and suddenly, Aman saw the grass that was grown below the valley. He was surprised and said, “There will be water for sure as the grass cannot grow without water”. Vimal also agreed and thought of digging a pit there and they started doing the same. Slowly, The pit became wider and wider and the sun is right over the head. But, there was no sight of water. Vimal started the discussion Vimal: Maybe we are wrong. There is no sight of water in this place even after this much struggle. Aman: That’s impossible. We must keep trying. Vimal: You try! I am tired. Saying that Vimal went and sat nearby while Aman was still digging the pit. Two hours passed by… Suddenly, There was a small stream of water. Aman excitingly shouted, “I found water! I found water!” Hearing Aman’s words, Vimal was so happy and ran towards him. Then, he also started digging the pit picking the tools. Soon, There was full of water in that whole pit. Aman & Vimal drank water, fed the bulls, filled their pots, and had a bath. Vimal surrendered to the situation but Aman was so confident and he didn’t stop digging because, he knew that if he tries, He can get water out of that place in the desert. After this, they continued their journey and reached Udaipur the next day. They earned good money for their sculptures as they wished. Both brothers were so happy as their hard work paid off well and hence it is said, If one is determined in a trial, he would never lose.
