The Beautiful Rose – Magic

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Once in a desert, where no life could survive, A miracle took place. A beautiful rose that was mesmerizing rose has bloomed out. It was a tiny sapling with a tiny bud grown into a small flower. Though, It was not yet to have all petals, It was the most beautiful thing none had ever seen.

Just beside the beautiful rose, there are two cactuses growing up by names, Pear and Cereus. Pear is the short cactus while Cereus is the tall one. These both had their unique shapes and they were so happy to have such a beautiful rose between them.

Pear said, “Isn’t it magic to have this rose bloom in between us?” In reply, Cereus said, “Yes, Truly Pear!” They discussed together and gave the name of the mesmerizing rose as “Magic”.  Magic was not a normal rose and both cactuses knew it well. She was growing too slowly for any normal flower.

The Pear & Cereus were so joyful, as it seemed like the magic will stay with them for a very long time. As a child, Magic used to do mischievous things. She would pinch Cereus and put the blame on Pear.

Discussion begins:

Cereus: Do you want to cut this now? This is an old trick.

Pear: What Trick? Are you talking about me drinking water that I stored inside myself? That’s not a trick. It is a way to survive ourselves. Keep drinking water yourselves.

Cereus: Yuck. That’s disgusting. Tell me what you want. Just stop pinching me!

Pear: Pinching you? Great goodness! Did you fall asleep opening your eyes?

Cereus: Don’t you dare play that card. It once happened and I was tired.

Pear: Oh right! Are you tired of standing in the middle of the desert? Why don’t you have a little walk then? Your roots, Your rules!

Cereus: Just stop pinching me. Alright?

Pear: I am not pinching you truly. Stop dreaming with your eyes open!

The cactuses argued for hours over it. None would accuse the Magic, the innocent rose.

As Pear & Cereus, being cactuses, they can store a lot of water in them. They each would give some water to Magic and help her stay healthy and never told her that if she didn’t drink enough water, she would die.

Months passed by and Magic grew up. She bloomed to be the most beautiful flower on earth. She had layers and layers of petals and was bright red in color. Surprisingly, She grew taller than Pear but was still shorter than Cereus. Both the cactuses were very proud of their Magic.

Her roots spread under the sand and held her posture strong on the surface. Cereus would give her a shower whenever she asked for it. Pear would big-heartedly open his branch and let her drink wherever she got thirsty. She loved both her friends.

Months passed and A visitor finally came to the desert. He was a tourist on a camel. After seeing the rose, He thought, “A rose? In a desert? This is the most magical and beautiful thing I have ever seen.” He went closer and examined the flower. He then took a bowl out of the water and kept it in front of Magic. “You must be so thirsty, little flower. Wait, let me find my little spray. It’s time to give you a bath.”

But Magic wasn’t listening. She was mesmerized by what she saw in the bowl of water. It was her reflection. “I am the most beautiful flower, indeed! Look at the straight posture! Oh, the bright red color! The thick petals! I look amazing! All this while, I thought I look like Pear & Cereus. I thought I needed them! But no! They need me! I make them look attractive.”

The tourist found his spray, dipped it in the bowl of water, and sprayed droplets on Magic. The droplets made Magic look even more magical. Wow! This flower is so beautiful.

Discussion between Magic & Tourist:

Tourist: I am sure I will be paid a handsome reward if I uproot this flower and take it with me! You would love to see the city. wouldn’t you?

Magic: “City? I want to see.”

Tourist: Oh! what is this wound on your stem? Ah! It must be due to these cactuses. You deserve to be put in the garden securely. Everyone would have come to see you.

Even the Tourist doesn’t know that the wound happened as Magic had to bend to drink water from Pear. He also didn’t know that she would possibly not survive if uprooted and taken from where she belonged. Wait, Let me uproot you.

But, both cactuses knew that the city was so far away. Magic couldn’t possibly survive the long journey in the rough desert. If uprooted, Magic could not live so long. Without thinking twice, they bruised the tourist as he came closer to uproot the rose.

How dare you, stupid cactuses. In rage and pain, the tourist punched Cereus. But being a cactus, absolutely no harm was done to it. Instead, the visitor was bruised because of some more thorns. “Who is stupid now? Human” Cereus said.

The tourist thought the cereus had laughed at him even though he didn’t hear his words. This made him furious and he punched Pear. Again, the tourist got bruised. The tourist so sadly sat on his camel and left. Both Pear & Cactus laughed together.

The Magic started the Discussion

Magic: How dare you both? Why are you so jealous of me?

Pear: Magic, you don’t understand. He was taking you only for his own benefit. He wouldn’t have cared for you.

Magic: Who are you to decide the right for me? You two are ugly cactuses. I am the most beautiful flower on this planet. I should be securely kept in a garden for people to come to see me.

Cereus: Magic, don’t be so proud of yourself.

Magic: Why not? What is so special about you two?

Pear: We can hold water for years. How do you think, you are surviving?

But, Magic was not listening. She kept complaining and insulting the cactuses. She vowed that she would never bend to drink water from Pear. She doesn’t want to hurt her beautiful neck.

Cereus: Really? will you never drink water? Okay then. Pear, we have done enough for her till now. She can fend for herself now.

Both the cactuses hardened themselves and stopped talking to Magic. They were angry at her for her arrogant behavior. Magic was very happy for the first few days. The water in her roots was being used to keep her fresh. She didn’t look at either of the cactuses and always kept herself arched up.

But a week later, she began to feel weak. she still tried to stand straight as she didn’t want to show her weakness to the cactuses. But as all the water in her roots was being used up, her insides were giving away and she began to pant.

Cereus: Magic, lose your pride and drink some water.

Pear: Yes Magic. You will still be the most beautiful flower after drinking some water.

Magic: No, I bend.

One more day passed and magic was now completely bent. She was dizzy and weak and began to cry.

Magic: Why is this happening to me?

Pear: Because you need water to survive, you proud flower. Please let us help you.

Magic: You still want to help me? I didn’t want to bend. But nature made me. I have realized my mistake. I have been terrible to both of you. I deserve this. I am so sorry!

Without wasting a minute, Both cactuses showered water on Magic. It took some time, but Magic finally was standing on her roots again.

Magic: Oh! I am so sorry! Will you both ever forgive me?

Cereus: Hahaha! You are already forgiven! Our little Magic.

The three plants were happy again.

Moral of The Beautiful Rose – Magic Story

Pride is a very expensive emotion. If we are too proud of ourselves, we must be ready to pay a very heavy price for it. Never be proud.
