One day, he noticed that there were a lot of monkeys on the beach. He inquired about the monkeys’ journey to the beach, “Where did they come from?” “Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, was living in the forest with his wife, Sita, and brother, Lakshmana,” said Jambuvan, an elderly bear. Sita was taken from the brothers while they were away from their cottage. Rama is close to our king Sugriva. He has sent us to find Sita. An old bird recalled seeing a woman being taken away by the Rakshasa king Ravana. “Sita, that woman, then, was Rama’s wife!” The elderly eagle exclaimed. The old bird said, “Ravana took her to his island fortress of Lanka.” On the other side of this sea, Lanka is hundreds of miles away. A monkey said, “Let us jump across the sea.” The monkey commander said, “Wait!” “First, tell me, what is your potential?” He pressed. “The monkey gave a blink. What does potential mean to you?” He pressed. “How high are you able to jump? To put it another way, how far do you think you can jump?” the monkey commander inquired. After considering it, the monkey said, “20 feet.” A little monkey screamed, “Then you will fall right into the sea,” and everyone laughed. “Silence!” The commander yelled. A second monkey could leap 100 feet, 200 feet, and so forth. However, no monkey believed he could leap hundreds of miles to Lanka. The wise Jambuvan said to a monkey who was sitting alone, “There is one hero among us who can leap to Lanka.” “Hanuman, you mean?” The commander questioned, “But he is not even talking. He speaks so quietly. Jambuvan stated, “That is because Hanuman does not know his own potential. Let us surround him and recite a mantra to help him realize his potential.” As a result, all the monkeys surrounded Hanuman and began chanting, “Hanuman, you can! You can, Hanuman! Hanuman, you can get it done! “HANUMAN, YOU CAN!,” the monkeys chanted louder. “You can, HANUMAN!” Hanuman began to expand as the monkeys chanted. He increased in size. As the chant continued, he got up, extended his hands, and took a huge leap across the sea. “You can, Hanuman. You can, Hanuman!” Hanuman arrived in Lanka, where he met Sita and conveyed Rama’s message to her. He conveyed Rama’s message to Sita. Hanuman expressed gratitude to his friends for assisting him in discovering his potential.
