Story of Pilu’s Hard Work

The school was getting close to sports day. The children were practising for the big race with a lot of excitement. Raj, one of the school’s fast runners, was doing nothing and was confident he would win. Raj’s mother stated, “Raj, you must put in a lot of effort to win the race. Why are you not practising at all? This is very bad.”

“You know how quick I am, Mom! So, why should I run all the time? No one else will win; only I will!” Raj exclaimed. His mother warned him, “Raj, you may be correct; however, talent alone is not enough. This laziness of yours will cost you greatly.” 

Raj just giggled and shook his head. Because no one else in his class was as fast as he was, he was so confident that he would win the trophy!

Raj’s classmate Pilu also took part in the running race. He could not run quickly. However, he had developed great endurance and the willpower to run the race through a lot of hard work and late-night practice. 

Sports day was still a few days away, but Raj did not practice at all. Tim, on the other hand, practised constantly. Although sports day was rapidly approaching, Raj was certain that no one could challenge him and had practiced extensively. However, Tim’s dedication and hard work made him a very fast runner.

Sports day finally arrived. AII the students gathered on the ground to support their teams. The participants were given the signal by blowing a whistle to begin the race. Everyone began to run toward the finish line after the coach blew the whistle. It was such a thrill. All of the racers were far behind Raj and Tim. They were neck and neck. 

Pilu was suddenly passed by Raj. He was cheered on by the crowd. Soon, it became abundantly clear that Raj would defeat Tim. However, Pilu unexpectedly picked up speed and ran ahead of Raj as they approached the finish line just a few meters away. Pilu’s brilliant performance caught everyone off guard. He proudly accepted the prize money and trophy.

Raj’s mother praised Pilu for his efforts, saying, “You deserve it for your dedication and effort!” Pilu had a wide smile on his face and replied, “Thank you, ma’am!” He jumped with excitement and ran carrying his trophy. 

Shamefully, Raj hung his head. “Dear Raj, talent or achievements without hard work is absolutely useless,” his mother told him. “That kid worked hard and got a reward for it. The only way to achieve or gain success is through hard work!” 

Raj now recognized the significance of hard work. His life was significantly altered as a result of this incident.
