March 25, 2023July 16, 2023 The Tale of A Man and His Donkey A man and his son once went to the market on their donkey. A countryman passed them as they walked by his side and said, “You fools, what is a donkey for but to ride upon?” The man then mounted the child on the donkey and set out on their way. However, as soon as they came to a group of men, one of them commented, “See that lazy youngster; he lets his father walk while he rides.” So the man requested his kid to get off and got on himself. They had just passed two women when one of them said to the other, “Shame on that lazy lout to let his poor little son trudge along.” They hadn’t even gone very far. The man had no idea what to do, but eventually, he rode the donkey with his son. They had arrived in the town by this point, and people passing by started to yell at them and point at them. The man came to a stop and inquired about their dismissal. “Aren’t you ashamed of yourself for overburdening that poor donkey of yours—you and your hulking son?” the men asked. After getting off, the man and the boy tried to decide what to do. They thought about it for a long time before finally cutting a pole, tying the donkey’s feet to it, and bringing the donkey and the pole to their shoulders. All of the people they came across laughed until they reached a bridge, where the donkey kicked out of one of his feet and caused the boy to drop his end of the pole. The donkey fought and fell over the bridge, drowning with his forefeet tied together. The man thought, “All that concerns me, not what other people think, is what I must do.” This rule, which is hard in real life and thought, maybe all that separates greatness from meanness. It’s harder because there will always be people who think they know more about your duty than you do. Morals of The Tale of A Man and His Donkey You cannot please everyone, so you should focus on doing what you know is right and ignore the opinions of others. Living according to the opinions of the world is simple; Living on our own is simple when we are alone.
